Sochting Oxydator A oxydator creates pure oxygen in the aquarium. This pure oxygen helps to break down harmful substances in the aquarium. This extra oxygen that is generated also acts as a kind of ''insurance''. If the power ever goes out, or something gets broken, the oxidator ensures that the aquarium is still supplied with oxygen that keeps the aquarium alive.I highly recommend running one of these if you are running Co2. The unit I use the sochting oxydator mini, it’s a simple design and easy to see the reaction taking place. It uses a “catalyst” which reacts with the “fluid” (hydrogen peroxide), the ceramic base acts as a diffuser for the pure O2. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ll add that I have used them in shrimp tanks and planted aquariums. I’m currently trialing it’s effectiveness on hair/bb algae on Anubias.

Was going to say how would it work against green hair algae? And i wonder whether they could be used on saltwater aquariums as well?

I believe it works on the principle of ORP and Redox. Others have said it essentially saturates the water with oxygen which is detrimental to algae.
I’m have the pesky algae on Anubias so that’s the current test. I did first notice these for saltwater tanks although I have only used with shrimp/plants.

So the black beard algae is decreasing but there are a few factors such as better flow, increased C02 and lighting for some. So I’m not entirely sold on it for algae reduction.
Considering another option for the black beard is hydrogen peroxide or Seachem Excel (painted onto algae) and both work much faster.
I will note this little unit saved the 4 footer last night. We had a series of blackouts yesterday afternoon, combined with 40 degree weather. The little oxygen bubbles kept streaming out and fish weren’t hanging around the top of that tank.
