What follows is an edited and condensed version of their conversation. MIT Management Review: Why did the to focus on the nation’s critical infrastructure? : Much of the attention around cybersecurity focuses on things like stealing credit cards.
This is important and we don’t lose sight of it. But surprisingly, cyberattacks on critical infrastructure receive surprisingly little attention. You rarely hear about pipeline explosions in Türkiye or meltdowns at German steel plants. You may have heard something about the cyber attack on the Ukrainian power grid that occurred around Christmas last year. Generally speaking, these incidents involving infrastructure Email Lists Database attacks don't attract much attention; they're not as sexy as the revelation of a movie star's email. But they have the potential to have an even greater impact. Our sense is that we need to increase our focus on critical infrastructure cybersecurity. That doesn't mean we ignore everything else.
