Altolamprologus calvus They are endemic to Lake Tanganyika, Africa. They are found in the southwestern regions of the lake between Kapampa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (previously Zaire) and Cape Chaitika, Zambia. Size of fish - inches: 5.9 inches (15.01 cm) Minimum Tank Size: 40 gal (151 L) Temperament: Semi-aggressive Aquarium Hardiness: Moderately hardy Temperature: 73.0 to 77.0° F (22.8 to 25.0° C) Great little fish to keep in a tanganyikan setup with like sized fish. Awesome fish, Are the gold calvus found naturally in that colour? Or a product of tank breeding?

Thats a a Black Pearl as they are known as. Is still a small one. That yellow colour will probably grow out of it. You might be thinking more of the Alto. compressiceps, where you can get gold heads etc

There are only two types of calvus. Whites and blacks. That there is a gold compressiceps. Ive kept most varients and species of calvus and alto comps. My favorite fish.

There are differences between calvus and compressiceps. Hence the different categorizing of them. But yes they look very alike to the eye.

Actually my curiosity has paid off.
There is a yellow/gold calvus species found in Nkamba Bay, Chisanse, Zambia in Lake Tanganyika known as Altolamprologus calvus “Chisanse Yellow”.
That photo above is imported stock from SydneyDiscus and is actually the yellow calvus not comp.
