Anyone use plastic drums cut off for a cheap pond? Tub Garden? I do. One is buried in the ground. The other is above ground. I actually have a third only about 8" deep where I tried growing my Rambo Vallisneria outside. Rambo Val originally came from Lake Tanganyika. It grows short in hard water and will get up to 12" tall in soft water. I eventually acclimated it to full sun. I kept the water hard all summer. Leaves turned red. I decided to see if it is winter hardy. Right now I've buried it under bags of leaves for insulation. I'll see what happens. Here's a shot of all three tubs in July.

What an incredible pond DIY, and the use of material is not only budget friendly but recycling a product that would otherwise end up in landfill!! I’m absolutely in love with these, jerrytheplater 🤩😍 I’d love to play around with driftwood and semi-aquatic plants in one of these. And maybe a mini fog machine for special effects HAHA 🤣 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got to watch out for young kids though. When my oldest son Peter was a toddler we were both out in the backyard on a cool spring Saturday morning. My back was to him while I was puttering in the garden. Maybe weeding the garlic as it was sprouting. I heard him cry out, turned around, and saw Peter standing in the submerged tub garden. He had stepped on the remains of the ice on it and fell through. All I could think of is what would have happened if he had fallen in head first. I would have never have heard him. I pulled that drum out of the ground that day and waited 20 years before I started again. Peter is now married and both he and his wife are Captains in the Army and stationed at Fort Carson in Colorado Springs, CO. Rachel is in Airborne. Jumped maybe 50 or 60 times. She's third generation Airborne. Both are in Logistics, the supply chain. Peter is currently at Fort Polk in Louisiana with his Battalion doing training. So, here they are two years ago at their first wedding. It was simple in her backyard. June 15, the Anniversary of the founding of the US Army. They did it over this past June 15 with the whole deal: wedding dress, wedding party, reception, etc.
This has Grandpa George. He was almost killed on a practice jump. His chute didn't open until moments before impact. He broke his back and many other bones. Its amazing he recovered. Her father is a retired Lt. Colonel. They live in a very rural part of Washington State on the Pacific coast. They can see Airborne jump practices from their home from Joint Base Lewis-Mcchord. So, here is Pete resting on base in Afghanistan a few years ago.

😲 That’s insane!! Crazy how quickly small children can get into trouble, glad to hear everything turned out alright. I suppose that’s why Australia has so many strict rules on fences around any submerged body of water, like pools and ponds. Makes it hard when wanting to install one or more, but better safe than sorry! 🤔 Would love to be able to use half a wine barrel or an old cast iron bathtub for a planted pond!! How beautiful 🥰 Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Here are some YouTube videos from a Northwest US Carnivorous Plant Nursery giving construction steps for making Bog Gardens in old Cast Iron bathtubs. Since there is no standing water, don't see how it could be illegal down by you guys in Oz. Somebody by me has an old rusted out pickup truck from the 40's I'd guess planted out with plants. Can't show it now as all plants are dead as we head into winter. Plants come out of the cab.
